Aug 11, 2016 · "The '80s" is short for "the 1980s" in most contexts, though if one were writing a history of the 19th century, it might be short for "the 1880s." As you can tell from the previous paragraph, I don't.
Oct 31, 2015 · Being set in the 1980s is being treated as a quality of the movie that we are describing, just like being in black and white. We are not telling of the past event when the writer gave it a 1980s.
